Madoi

The Madoi is an unassuming little restaurant not far from the Toji Temple. My wife and I were looking for some Japanese food with an authentic feel and taste. We also needed a restaurant sympathetic to our lack of Japanese language skills. The Madoi fit the bill perfectly. On the outside door of th...e restaurant was a sign stating 'English menu', referring thankfully not to the food varieties but the language translation, as on the table was an iPad with the food and drinks menu loaded in picture and word format. It was simply a case of tap-and-order. The food and drink prices were incredibly good value, and the range and quality of the food is excellent. We had a combination of salad, fish and Japanese pizza, all beautifully fresh and well-presented. Staff were largely non-obtrusive, very polite and efficient. Prices are so low you can afford to try an additional drink you've never had, or add on additional dishes after ordering, something that generally never happens when dining out back home. It's a quiet venue, family and conversation friendly, with a warm and peaceful ambience. We loved it.

A nice little restaurant close to our hotel Sunrise suite in Kyoto. We ordered our food by an iPad at our table and was happy with a little pizza, some potatoes in a good sauce and some fried chicken. Good service and nice people.

We ventured into this restaurant near Toji Temple by chance. The food was really interesting - a bit of fusion kitchen, variation on European dishes with Japanese twist. You can order dishes almost as tapas on the notebook on your table. They come fairly quickly. We enjoyed the experience very much.... Higuchi (I hope I got her name right) made the experience even more positive and relaxed. Highly recommended if you like a bit of food adventure.
