“Oishi Fugu and we're still alive”
Great way to try fugu for the first time, as it gives you the oppportunity to try the different ways on how the fugu's served from raw to deep fried to boiled and they're all yummy (surprisingly! even my husband who's not that big on seafood really enjoyed it). Although I must say that am disappoin...ted that we didn't get to see how it's all prepared as that would have been an awesome thing to see. I was nicely surprised to how many of the local punters actually dine here so it's not just tourists which I find quite reassuring somehow. It's off our bucket list and thank you for the experience and the service was great too I forgot to mention .

“Great Chain Fugu Restaurant.”
Guenpin Fugu or Genpin Fugu (however it is spelt) is a chain of fugu (pufferfish) restaurants in Japan. I arrived at this restaurant at about 8:30pm on a Wednesday night and even though they seemed to be extremely busy they still managed to seat us in a private room. The fugu set meals are varied a...nd range from about 3500 yen for the most basic one (4 course - entree, sashimi, hotpot, dessert) to thousands of yen for more courses or wild fugu (more poisonous and therefore more expensive). The food itself is ok. Highly recommend the thick cut sashimi. It's a fugu meal so that in itself is a key attraction. What I really wanted to give them credit for here however was their excellent service. Japan is quite well known for good service but I was particularly impressed by this restaurant. The two of us decided to order one basic set to share and two additional dishes. When ordering the waiter was at pains to point out that ordering the set one price level up and one additional dish instead would save us money. In addition, when the dishes actually came out, they were very good sized portions. Obviously there were a set number of pieces of fugu but we don't know if they just gave us more of the other things e.g. veges for the hotpot, the rice porridge, etc, as both of us ended up quite full. We got to the point where we were wondering if the waiter had misunderstood the order and brought us two set meals instead. At the end of the meal they even gave us two serves of ice cream even though we had only ordered one set and one additional dish. I would recommend this restaurant.
