“Good place to relax, eat, and drink”
My friends and I had a great time in this modern-looking izakaya (Japanese pub), located on the second floor of Coredo Muromachi, which is a modern, many-floors shopping building. We five ordered two portions of many dishes and shared them. The amount of each dish was just right for doing it that w...ay. We ate various kinds of Japanese food, such as sashimi. The tempura of spring vegetables included some unusual vegetables. The waiter recommended a squid dish which seemed to be a specialty. We saw that many tables had the same dish. It was cooked at our table over a small flame. My four Japanese friends didn’t like it, but I (an American) liked it a lot, so I got to finish what we’d been served. We drank a lot and ate many different things, and hung out chatting for about two hours. The bill was 6,000 yen each. The menu has photos of the food, and the waiters are helpful, so if you don’t speak or read Japanese, you can manage OK. The service was fast. The restaurant is big, but it’s spread out with dividers between areas, so you don’t feel like you’re in a giant place. With many customers drinking, it was noisy, but we were noisy too. We had no problem hearing the conversation at our own table. This is a good place for groups. Because of the noise level, it’s not particularly romantic.

“Fresh fish!”
My clients took me to a business dinner here. They brought out a selection of fresh fish to choose from. We had skewered fish cooked over coals and sashimi. Nice atmosphere. Would make for a nice date for couples and some families were there.

“Enjoyable Dinner at an Authentic Japanese Pub”
This is a very popular restaurant located only 5 minutes from the Mandarin Oriental and the subway station and was recommended by the Mandarin Oriental when we asked about an izakaya (or Japanese pub.) We had a table near the door which the concierge had reserved for us because there can be a lot o...f smoking in an izakaya. (As it turned out, we didn’t experience any smoking!) We ate here early in the evening and enjoyed watching the Japanese arriving from work, ready to enjoy a couple of drinks and some food with their friends or co-workers before catching a subway home. We were the only Westerners in this restaurant. Generally, the staff spoke very little English and we speak only a little Japanese but that really wasn’t much of a problem. There is an English menu with pictures. We had tempura shrimp and veggies as well as a fried noodle dish with green onions and subuki shrimp (very small shrimp with their heads on) which gave the noodles a great flavor. We enjoyed both the food and the atmosphere and would go back in a minute. An added bonus is that this restaurant takes credit cards. Overall, it was good value for the money and a truly authentic Japanese experience.
