“Tuna party”

Reviewed 30/Dec/2019

I went to this izakaya with some co-workers. I wasn't expecting much as I usually find izakaya fare pretty sub-standard, but to my surprise this place which focuses on an all tuna izakaya experience was surprisingly good. I was impressed with the quality of the dishes, especially the variety and fre...shness of the food. I was a guest so I cannot really comment on the overall quality price value of the meal, but I can say that I was more than full by the end of it all. The tuna kept on coming in all forms and shapes. My favorites were the different cut of tuna sashimi. Although the decor could be improved I thoroughly enjoyed the hands on approach of the staff who spoke enough English and were all too willing to provide some entertainment to their customers. We were given a short lesson on how to make our own sushi which was a lot of fun. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone in the vinicity.

HIGHLY recommended! Incredible quality for such a reasonable price! Delicious sashimi! Truly a speciality shop. A must-try for anyone visiting Japan. Same quality as places three times the price.

“I had a great evening!”

I went to this restaurant some days ago with my boyfriend and friends and I spent a great evening. We were a large group of people and the waiters explained to us all the procedures for making sushi in english, so it was easier for us to understand: we wore funny aprons, rubber gloves and paper hats... that resembled the ones that professional sushi chefs wear. It was really funny and an experience I had never done in my life. Then, they brought us many different dishes one after another, such as tempura, tuna sashimi, tuna steak and clams that were slowly cooked in front of us in order to make them tastier. I think this restaurant is a must for sea food lovers. The staff was really nice and friendly too. There were many different dishes, all delicious and made with fresh fish: you can also cook the raw fish as you like on small grills that they give you and add rice or other seasoning. The main dish however is Tuna, that can be eaten cooked or raw, as sashimi. There is also a great choice of drinks, from fresh japanese beer to sake, delicious plum wine or even unusual wasabi drinks! The place is really nice too, very japanese style with walls decorated with drawings of tuna and other fishes that suit well with the dishes that you're going to eat, and a large tatami room in wich you're going to take off your shoes to enter. The restaurant is on the third floor in a building really close to Shinjuku Station, so it is easy to reach and the street in which it is located is bustling and especially beautiful at night with all the lights. Recommended for spending some time with friends and eat quality food.

“Tuna Kingdom”

I went there with my girlfriend and friends a few nights ago, the place is located in Shinjuku in a building on the 3rd floor and is very easy to reach by elevator. It is very spacious with many seats, especially in addition to the normal seats, if you are in a group, ther are two long tables thay a...re very traditional and comfortable. The environment is welcoming with paintings that recall the sea and give a traditional and characteristic appearance to the place. Also being the local specialty tuna, I found the paintings in line with the type of cuisine. The menu is very varied, especially there are various dishes based on tuna with different preparations or different parts of the latter. After we sat down, they brought us rice, pieces of fish already cut (salmon, tuna) and various ingredients such as omelet, zucchini, and fish eggs after which the waiter taught us how to prepare sushi. Thanks to the knowledge of the waiter although I am not very good I think I have prepared good sushi, but surely it was very fun and instructive. Later we ate various tuna cuts and every time a course arrived the very prepared waiter explained to us what part of tuna we were going to eat. In the end, in addition to sushi we also ate grilled fish such as salmon and slices of tuna. The last course we ate was clams cooked and boiled in front of us with excellent sake that later we also drank. As for things to drink beyond traditional soft drinks, there were various Japanese beers to choose from and very good sake. The services were very quick and the waiters very courteous and prepared. Both for the experience of being able to prepare sushi yourself and to eat excellent tuna, I highly recommend it as a place.

“Make Your Own Sushi & EAT IT”

Grilled fish cheek, 5 different types of tuna, ebi (prawn) tempura and other assorted seasonal vegetables lightly battered & fried till crispy dipped in matcha (green tea powder) salt, fresh asari (clams) simmered in nihonshu (japanese sake), and wash it all down with a spicy, ice-cold glass of wasa...bi moscow mule. All sound good? It was more than good. My friends and I decided to check out this maguro joint after hearing so much about it from friends who have gone before. It was perfect as it was just within 5min walk from Shinjuku Station (West Exit) and we had just finished shopping in Shinjuku San-chome nearby. My favourite dish would have to be the maguro don (fresh hand-cut raw tuna slices) that comes with your personal grill that allowed you to sear your tuna as well-done as you’d like. If you are one to play with your food like me, this is definitely a dish you would enjoy. The dipping sauce (which was a mix of garlic, sesame and other yummy things) was great and I enjoyed lapping up every bit of it with the self-seared tuna. 5/5 will be back.
