The Biggest Bowls of Japan: Six Restaurant Recommendations for Big Eaters!

This one is for all you big eaters out there, everyone who just isn’t quite satisfied with a “regular” serving and could easily go for another helping. This time, we toured Japan in search of those restaurants that will surely not leave you wanting for more, whether they’re specializing in pasta delicacies, fresh and delicious seafood, or even savory beef. And the best part about these restaurants? The prices for these huge servings are almost shockingly low! Let’s go on a big eating tour through Japan!

1. A Mountain of Napolitan – Big Eater’s Delight in Tokyo’s Jimbocho

The first dish on our extensive list is Napolitan, Japan’s favorite pasta creation that makes for a wonderfully filling and yet reasonably priced lunch. Jimbocho, the business district in the heart of Tokyo, turns out to be a true heaven for fans of Napolitan – and our warmest recommendation for big eaters is a store called Sabouru. Opened in 1955, this long-established café is so popular, it opened a second location, Sabouru 2, right next to its main location. At this second restaurant, you’ll be served a delicious mountain of Napolitan pasta – just look at the image! All of this is waiting to be enjoyed!

By the way: Jimbocho has an amazing selection of atmospheric and relaxed cafés to offer, so don’t hesitate to change location after enjoying your Napolitan and try a cup of coffee or a piece of cake here and there.

2. The Biggest Steak Bowl in Ueno for less than 1,000 Yen!

Who doesn’t love a good steak bowl? Fluffy, steaming rice topped with juicy, medium-rare steak slices makes your mouth water just by looking at it, doesn’t it? However, big eaters might find themselves still a bit peckish after such a dish. Since October 2016, however, at least Tokyoites with a healthy appetite don’t have to worry about no more when Steak Takeru opened its Ueno location and introduced the “Extra Large Steak Bowl”

Limited to five servings a day, this dish is 1 kilogram of food in total – 400 gram of that being steak! In addition to that, a variety of free seasonings is available on every table to enhance the taste to whatever suits you best!

3. Savoring Seafood: the Large Sashimi Set in Shinjuku

West Shinjuku is well known as one of Tokyo’s busiest office areas. And where do hungry office workers go for lunch? One restaurant, called Takamaru Sengyoten, offers a particularly large and reasonably priced seafood: the Takamaru Set. For 1080 yen, indulge in thick-sliced sashimi, the many ingredients as fresh as they can be and changing on a daily base. It’s not just sashimi you get, though, the set also includes a generous serving of rice and miso soup. This is Shinjuku’s best sashimi deal for big eaters!

4. Eat to Your Heart’s Desire with All-You-Can-Eat Bread for 1,000 Yen!

Our next recommendation is also in Shinjuku, the business heart of Tokyo. Opened in September of 2016, Trattoria Quinto serves delicious and authentic Italian food and particularly the lunch menu will leave no one wanting for more! The meat lunch includes not only 250g of grilled pork shoulder, but also salad or soup, bread, and a drink for a mere 1,000 yen! The best part about this offer is that you can ask for more bread as many times as you like – enjoy it by itself or scoop up the rest of the sauce with it! With an offer like that, even big eaters won’t have to go hungry!

5. Japan’s Biggest (and Cheapest) Omelette Rice can be Found in Aichi!

Let’s leave Tokyo to feast on Japan’s biggest omelette rice, or omurice in short. The massive delicacy can be found in Aichi Prefecture’s city of Nagano and is served at Restaurant Kadoya, a favorite among both locals and tourists that has been in operation for more than half a century. The fried egg on top of the mountain of rice might seem thin but you’ll be genuinely surprised by its incredible fluffiness. Equally fluffy is the ketchup-flavored rice underneath, filling your mouth with a wonderfully nostalgic taste that fits the atmosphere of Restaurant Kadoya just perfectly! Huge bonus: this large omurice can be savored for only 650 yen.

6. 650g of Massive Fried Rice in the Gourmet Prefecture of Osaka!

Last but not least, we head over to the gourmet prefecture of Osaka to try Ramen Hosokawa’s 650g chahan, or fried rice, in a beautiful and delicious dome shape! A thin coating of oil makes the rice particularly fluffy and delicious and since the seasoning is on the mild side, finishing the entire plate is as easy as it is delightful, especially for big eaters! No holding back required.
