“Quiet restaurant of exceptional quality.”
Eating in Kyoto in the evening can be a nightmare, especially on a damp Saturday night. Prices are sky high, given the GBP exchange rate and menus displayed are either only in Japanese or too plainly aimed at foreigners, perhaps because the locals wouldn't eat there! We chose Bengara in desperation,... rather late, so sat at the bar for their 7 course meal. Watching the sushi chef at work reassured us of the craftsmanship. His knives were superb and he knew how to use them. Little about the meal was especially new to us but the little twists and finishing touches made it one of the best in memory. The herbs in the miso, the pairing of black sesame ice-cream with a cube of milk mousse were inspired. The lovely lady who explained things to us had just enough English to make it a pleasure. We will be going back before we leave Kyoto!

“Very good kaiseki dinner with the family”
We had our first kaiseki dinner with 8 dishes for 8000 yen/pp. It was very good. The fresh ingredient and the flavor are excellent. We very much enjoy the private dinning room and the attentive service.
