We had a wonderful meal for lunch - a beautiful kagomori bento filled with tempura, sashimi, tsukemono, and other small delights. Reasonably priced for what you get. Highly recommended.

Although the tempura was fresh and tasty, it didn't come near to matching the ethereal food we had enjoyed in other Michelin starred tempura restaurants in Japan (e.g. in Tokyo, Kanazawa). The crust was not particularly light, not particularly flaky. The vegetables were good and the shrimp and fis...h more than o.k.. The final dish, a rice/fish combination was not particularly impressive; it must be an acquired taste.

“The wrong Tenshige”
I actually wanted to have dinner at Tenshige tempura restaurant. I asked Osaka Marriott Miyako Hotel to book for my friend and I before our arrival in Osaka which they did. However, since the hotel concierge gave us the wrong address, we ended up going to the wrong Tenshige which is a traditional ...Japanese restaurant, but not specialising in tempura. To be fair to Tenshige, the food wasn't bad at all. Just that I originally expected to have a tempura meal and was utterly disappointed by the mistake of the hotel, I couldn't enjoy the food to the fullest extent. My friend and I both ordered a kaiseki set which comprised about 8 dishes. All dishes were nicely presented and the dinner well paced. Service was exceptionally courteous as if we're VIPs. It must have been due to reminder of the assistant manager of the hotel who wanted to make up for their mistake. To our surprise, we're asked not to pay for anything in the end because the hotel would pay for us.

“A Memorable Experience”
Our dinner at Tenshige was a highlight of our Japan vacation. It is a tiny venue, about 8 seats in total, all at a small bar that surrounds the work area of the chef. We were graciously welcomed, seated, and offered a choice of beer or sake. No menus, and very little english is spoken. The chef i...s a master of Tempura cooking art. It was an incredible experience to sit and watch him at work, as he chose from his selection of fresh ingredients, cooked them to perfection, then placed them in front of you to enjoy. There is a selection of side dishes, sauces, etc. Among the selection we were served were scallops, cuttlefish wrapped in herb leaves, shrimp, vegetables; all just delicious! I highly recommend Tenshige !
