“5 Star for what it's meant to be....”
I'm giving this spot a five star for quality and value. If what you're looking for is a five star dining experience, napkins in the lap, expensive wine, romance...well...drive on...this isn't it, but.... We had a local take us to this place, a three minute walk from the train station. Best gyoza ...I've ever had; sushi was fresh and tasty, service was quick, and we could tell this was a local hang-out. (Note - friendly locals, too -- we don't speak a lick of Japanese and people from adjoining tables that knew bits of English were very helpful in getting us what we wanted.) The menu is picture if no English friendly and the prices are about half of what we experienced in the Station Mall just three minute walks away. Mixed drinks are a bit inconsistent, so I'd suggest sticking to beer or sake to stay within the value guidelines, but this is a rare local gem when it comes o value and convenience in Kyoto.
