Nankinmachi near, Eel / Unagi (Freshwater Eel) of gourmet restaurant list

Nankinmachi is one of the three major Chinatowns in Japan along with those in Yokohama and Nagasaki-shinchi. Located to the south side of Motomachi station of JR or Hanshin railways, it is a popular tourist destination where visitors can enjoy all types of food from dim sum to authentic Chinese cuisine in an exotic atmosphere. It is said that Nankinmachi emerged with the opening of Kobe Port in 1867. Since there was no treaty between the empire of Qing and Japan then, Chinese immigrants who were not allowed to live in the foreign settlement got together and formed a community which became a prototype of the present Nankinmachi. Although Nankinmachi disseminated after World War II, it was rebuilt in the mid '70's and became the present Nankinmachi. Nankinmachi's most joyous event is the "Spring Festival" held during the lunar New Year's celebration. During this time, the area becomes even more bustling with over 300,000 visitors.
