"Kokura Castle" is a castle located at Kokurakita-ku in Kitakyushu city, Fukuoka prefecture. It is said that it began as a castle that Mouri family from Chugoku region built in the current place in the late Sengoku period. Afterward, Tadaoki Hosokawa built its keep and some other parts. The castle keep is called "the keep of Karazukuri", featuring that there is no peaked roof between the 4th floor and the 5th floor, and the 5th floor is larger than the 4th floor. Nozura-zumi, which is a method of building stone architecture without cut stone, is taken for the stone wall of the castle. The wall shows off its largehearted mood. Kokura Castle Garden and Matsumoto Seicho Memorial Museum are close to the castle. Furthermore, visitors can enjoy shopping, food, arts, and music in Riverwalk Kitakyushu that is also around the castle.
