Edo-Tokyo Museum and Ryogoku Kokugikan Sumo Arena stand next to each other within 3 minutes' walk from JR Ryogoku station. Ryogoku Kokugikan is known as the arena for the Grand Sumo Tournament held three times a year. It is a large scale performance arena with approximately 10,000 seats. The arena is also used for various events and live concerts, the most famous of which is the Ninth Symphony Beethoven Concert held annually in February with 5,000 participants. The museum is divided into Edo zone and Tokyo zone where ample materials relating to the Edo and Tokyo culture are archived. After passing the entrance gate, visitors will see a life-size reproduction of Nihonbashi bridge from the Edo period. Visitors can walk over the bridge to experience how the people of Edo might have felt when crossing it. The diorama that accurately replicates the townscape of Edo is also a popular exhibit.
