Omiya Bonsai Village located in the Omiya district of Saitama prefecture is a major production site of Bonsai trees with over 90 years of history. At present, there are 9 Bonsai nurseries there. Promenade streets such as the "Keyaki-dori" and "Momiji-dori" have been implemented around the village, and the area is attracting public attention as a tourist spot where visitors can enjoy beautiful nature. Omiya Bonsai Village emerged after the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923. Bonsai growers who lived in Dangozaka in Sendagi of Tokyo were affected by the disaster and decided to move to a new location, seeking for a large lot to establish a new site for their business. It is said that this migration contributed to form the present Bonsai Village.Saitama Bonsai Museum was completed in 2010 here. The popular Great Bonsai Festival is held between May 3rd to 5th each year, attracting Bonsai lovers from all over Japan to this joyous occasion.
