Heian Jingu Shrine is a shrine located in Sakyo-ku, Kyoto. It was built in 1895 as a project to reconstruct the towns of Kyoto which was devastated by war and relocation of the capital of Edo, and to commemorate the 1100th anniversary of the transferring of Heian capital. Its main shrine mimics the Miyagi of Heian-kyo of the time of Kammu emperor, and a big vermillion torii is a registered tangible cultural property. It is popular among people as a sightseeing spot, and when the cherry blossoms are in bloom, it is illuminated. It is also used as a event venue, such as a wedding hall. Recently, an outdoor live was held there, which was unusual for shrines. Around it are a lot of restaurants that serves Kyoto style lunch.
