Motsuji in Sakamoto-118-10 Hashiba, Shizukuishi-cho, Iwate-gun, Iwate Prefecture, is a Buddhist temple of the Tendai sect founded by the monk Jikaku Daishi Ennin. It's a special historic site and a place of scenic beauty. This sightseeing spot has the beautiful Pure Land gardens created in the Heian era. During the lifetime of Motohira, the second Northern Fujiwara lord, and Hidehira, the third Northern Fujiwara lord, many temples were built. After the fall of the Nothern Fujiwara, all of the buildings were burnt down by repeated fires except for the pond-centered Pure Land gardens and the temple ruins of the Heian period, which remained in almost perfect condition. The Main Hall was constructed in 1989, with authentic twelfth-century architecture. It's a deeply history place where you can experience the world of Heian Japan.
