“One of our Tokyo Favorites!!”
My wife and I return to Tokyo 4 ties a year and this is by far one of the places on our must visit list! If it is our longer trip we even go several times it is just that good! Not sure of the set name but we get one dish that has a handful of skew items on it from Veggies of different types and 3 ...good side Shrimp and also pork. All this can be dipped in sauces (Sweet or spicy or you can mix it up!) On top of that you get a little veggie appetizer, Rice, miso Soup and a small scoop of ice cream (Flavor varies by day). On top of that you also get a choice for an addition skew which they have a small menu list for you to chose from (Not sure if they have English) but when in Season (Like February) I always enjoy Anko (Monk fish) I also enjoy the duck & fuagra which is also very tasty. Be careful all are very hot when they come out of the oil so make sure to test before putting it all in your mouth as can be very hot! But we make sure to go here when ever we are in Akihabara as is a super favorite of ours. We go so often the staff sort of recognizes us even despite not being year round Tokyo residents that's how often we go! I can only chose one month below but to give you an idea from November until March we went probably 5-6 times at least perhaps more lost track. I chose yes for vegetarian as I saw one review below where a Veggie went in and they did accommodate her needs in this regards but I have personally not experienced this was just something I saw in below review just make sure the staff knows as seems they were helpful to her making sure she got what she wanted for her specific diet. Vegan am not sure on. As above they did ask specific questions it seems but being friend and the batter being all set it might not be Vegan but you can always ask it is worth it if they can accommodate you in that regards!

Being vegetarian in Tokyo is not easy. I was very happy to find this restaurant that although they do have meat kushiage, most of them are vegetables. I told the cook before starting to eat and he was very understanding and made me only vegetables, sometimes asking when in doubt if I ate or not eggs... or cheese for eg. The restaurant itself is very nice, really local japanese food experience. Thanks to NayKat's review I understood how the ordering system worked, it was really helpful! the restaurant is divided in small bars , so there is one cook for each bar of 10 peiole aprox. the cook is in the center and people share a small bar around him. As he cooks he starts serving you. all delicious! I ate only vegetables and always served me a different one. great variety. you should defenitely ask for the ice cream before leaving.

“Best dinner I've had in Japan!”
Located among the many restaurants on the 3rd floor of the Akihabara UDX restaurant row, you will never just happen upon Shinjuku Tatsukichi. But if you love authentic, fresh tempura with friendly service at a great value then go find it! This was my first time at a restaurant like this, but the e...xperience was fun, easy, and delicious (NayKat's TripAdvisor review of 4/22/16 explains the protocol well...thanks). Many other tasty looking items are on the menu also. Be sure to save room for the tempura ice cream!

We were looking for tempura and by accident we found that place: unforgettable!! When you have eaten here the freshly prepared individual items all with different flavors from asparagus to foie gras, from beans to smooth beef, then you will have difficulties eating "normal tempura" somewhere else.

“MUST VISIT if you like tempura and yaki skewers! No Japanese? No problem!”
My friend recommended this place during my solo travel. I AM DEFINITELY taking my friends and family back there! Food: imagine yakitori + tempura. Skewers are deep friend with tempura batter but NOT greasy and yet full of flavours. Experience:( for a NON-Jap speaker) They do NOT speak english (ex...pected) but NO PROBLEM! =) 1) you tell the front how many people , wait till they seat you 2) sat a one of the bar seat, "chef" immediately give you your setting (veggie, sauces) & a sake/beer/alcohol menu. I ordered water "o-mi-tsu" (or get google translate) 3) Chef will start putting food on your tiny "plate", 1 skewer at a time. You start eating, no need to order. 4) After consuming each skewer, you put the "bamboo stick" in the "cup" provided. those are your "scores" 5) when you are absolutely stuffed, give that "cup" to him, he will count the sticks (skewers) and give you bill 6) you pay at the front/ each skewer is 180 yen (flat price) Tips: 1) there IS actually a menu, but it is in japanese/kanji. You can actually order from the menu OR you can tell chef what you DO NOT eat (such as seafood, etc). 2) They have a total of around 60 choices, I only made it to 19 (with 2 repeats since they were very tasty). Next time, I will go straight to the Meat and Seafood. 3) Dessert must be per request (I was too full to enjoy that, but i did chatted up the neighboring couple and they ordered banana and green tea ice cream - yes also tempura style)
