“Not great value, unfortunately ”
I don’t often write reviews but this time I felt compelled to share my experience as it may help others with their decision making process, as we ourselves found this restaurant on TripAdvisor. At a glance the menu (in English) looked reasonable, and the staff seemed friendly enough. We ordered a di...sh of soba noodles with chicken (780 Yen) and a dish of fried chicken (880 Yen), and a glass of Coke. We neglected to see the mandatory 480 Yen entree (“cover charge”) (per person) on the menu, which was a very small dish of baby octopus (whether you like it or not) which we didn’t really want but ate it anyway. The coke came out and it was a glass full of large ice cubes with a splash of coke, maybe 200-250mL (400 Yen). The fried chicken came out next and it was 4 small pieces of chicken. It was good but honestly it wasn’t exceptional. Barely entree size by western standards. The noodles followed shortly after, which were pretty standard with all the other soba noodles we’ve had in Japan, with two even smaller pieces of sliced chicken. Barely a mouthful combined. I understand that serving sizes are smaller (and healthier) in Japan, but I feel these meals were overpriced for what we got. Then the icing on the cake was the additional 8% tax that was added on top (we also neglected to note that the menu prices excluded tax). So, 3,261 Yen later ($44.20 AUD) later, we had got 2 entree-sized meals, 2 unwanted mini-entrees and a small coke. It’s worth noting that the two dishes we ordered were two of the cheapest on the menu. We’re not frugal holiday-makers, but I guess we’ve finally had enough of feeling like we’ve been fleeced every time we eat out at a restaurant.

“Good Izakaya in Kanazawa”
Good range of food. Close to the train station. Good vibe. Seems to be a non-smoking venue, which is good. Has English menu.
