Akashi Restaurant Guide

The town is known for lying on the 135 degrees east longitudinal line, marking the meridian for Japan standard time.Akashi Strait, which is located between Awaji Island and Honshu, is known for sea bream and octopus. The flesh of the sea bream is tightened and massaged by the strong tide of the Akashi Strait, and Akashi sea bream has been prized since ancient times.Octopus from the area also is unique with its chewy texture, but it is said to have complex flavors due to its diet of crabs.Akashiyaki, octopus that is mixed with eggs, water, and flour and then lightly cooked, is said to be the origin of takoyaki. As it is eaten with fish broth, it tastes nothing like takoyaki and has a rather light flavor.Called the home of tamagoyaki (rolled omelets), this area is home to over 70 different restaurants competing with their version of the dish.At 3991m (13,093 t), the Akashi Kaikyo bridge is the world's longest suspension bridge, spanning from Awaji Island to Akashi. It is lit up 24 hours a day, making it one of the most famous night views in the country.
