Amagasaki Restaurant Guide

The Inagawa and Kanzakigawa rivers that run east and the westerly Mukogawa river that runs west enclose this region that faces the Inland Sea. The flood plain of the Inagawa and Mukogawa rivers is a beautiful area, a popular place for relaxation and recreation among local joggers and walkers. Amagasaki has a long history as port city since the Heian Period, and ever since modern times its location between Osaka and Kobe has led to its urbanization and industrialization as an industrial center and traffic hub. Before the war it was famous for soy sauce production, but this production ceased during wartime. Modern preservation societies have brought back it back and it is sold to the public. There are 11 temples in the area around the Hanshin Amagasaki Station, and at the beginning of the Edo Period it was part of the Amagasaki feudal domain, called the "Teramachi (Temple Town) Neighborhood", where many historical buildings remain to this day.The grave of the Edo Period writer of many Bunraku puppet plays, Monzaemon Chikamatsu, is located here, and as a result many events related to Chikamatsu and the puppet theater take place here as well.
