(Osaka)Nippombashi Restaurant Guide

Nipponbashi is located on the eastern side of the Namba district. The Nipponbashi area lies south of Minamizume and is named for a bridge (bashi) spanning the Dotonbori Canal. It's also abbreviated as "Ponbashi."Nipponbashi's Den Den Town is one of Japan's many "electric towns" and is often compared with Tokyo's Akihabara. In days past, many massive electronics retail stores lined Sakaisuji Avenue, Den Den Town's main thoroughfare, though their numbers have dwindled in recent years. The heart of activity for the city is now Nansan-Dori and the Otaroad neighborhood, close to Nankai Railway's Namba Station.Otaroad is located to the west of Sakaisuji. It features many shops selling electronics parts, "doujinshi" fan comics, cosplay items, and character figures that cater to "otaku," or aficionados of video games, comics, and animated programs.Every spring, Sakaisuji is the center of the Nipponbashi Street Festa, where part of Sakaisuji itself is turned into an open-air mall.Besides the variety of events that are held at the street festival, Street Festa also features a parade of participants dressed in cosplay outfits and maids from the local maid cafes.People gather from the surrounding areas, creating a very festive atmosphere.
