Shinsaibashi Restaurant Guide

The neighborhood of Shinsaibashi, which is called Minami ("south"), is one of the two main shopping areas in Osaka.Midosuji Boulevard, a national highway, runs north and south cutting through central Osaka.Midosuji Boulevard is a main thoroughfare running from the Umeda district to the Nanba district, and is a six-lane southbound one-way route. There are approximately 970 gingko trees along the road. In winter, the trees are decorated with lights from the Yodoyabashi intersection to the Shinmachi intersection for the "Mido-suji Illumination".There are many department stores and high-end brand stores centered on the Shinsaibashi-suji shopping district along the east side of Shinsaibashi Station and Mido-suji Boulevards. In the area southwest, there is a neighborhood called Amerika-mura ("American Village", also known as "Ame-mura"), which has stores that sell youth apparel and stylish secondhand clothes.Even further south is a district called Dotonbori. There are many colorful neon signs by the Ebisu Bridge over the Dotonbori River. The most famous sign is the Glico sign depicting a runner with his arms raised. The entire area is bustling; nearby, the Kani Doraku restaurant has a characteristic giant moving crab sign, and the pufferfish specialty restaurant Zuboraya has a large blowfish lantern.
