Asakusa Restaurant Guide

Needless to say, Asakusa is full of must-see tourist attractions in Tokyo. Among them, Asakura temple is most emblematic. The area originally flourished as a town built around the temple, influenced by lively Edo culture.Much of the town's old charm remains in the streets and shops in this town, which boasts overwhelming popularity among foreign visitors. People come and go by rickshaw from the Denmon Gate area at all hours of the day.A great many bustling shops line the streets that run through the temple proper.Popular for viewing cherry blossoms in the springtime, riverside Sumida Park now offers a scenic view of Tokyo Skytree. The annual Sumida river fireworks festival has become so popular that it is now televised, and many people pack the area while it is held.Asakusa's local specialty is monjayaki (a savory pancake with various fillings), followed by its many well-established sukiyaki and tendon restaurants. The Kamiya Bar, beloved by Japan's early literary masters, was established here in 1880 (Meiji year 13). Manufacture of the famous Denki Bran cocktail liquor began here in 1882.The main building is Asakusa's oldest reinforced concrete structure, and has been registered as one of Japan's important cultural properties.
