Kita-Senju Restaurant Guide

The Arakawa River separates Sumida ward from the Kita-Senju area of the Senju district. It is situated in the southern part of the Adachi ward. There is another area in the Senju district called Minami-Senju, but when one says "Senju" they usually mean Kita-Senju.Senju has been the starting point for the Nikko and Oshu highways since the Edo period, and "Senju Station" helped develop the area into a bustling post town. It was also the starting point for Basho's "The Narrow Road to the Interior". These days Kita-Senju Station is a terminal for five railway lines and the platforms are always packed with travelers. In the 2000s the area around the station's west exit was redeveloped to make it more convenient, and the station plaza was expanded and renovated. Tokyo's University of the Arts' Senju campus, along with the Tokyo Center for the Arts was built here, and past the east exit is the Senju campus of Tokyo Denki University, giving this area the impression of a college town in recent years.Incidentally, the east exit is also called the "Dendaiguchi (Denki University Exit)".
