Marunouchi Restaurant Guide

The Marunouchi area is enclosed by the Imperial Palace's outer garden and Tokyo Station, is the site of many office towers, and serves as one of the gret centers of Japanese business and finance. Designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan, the beautiful red brick Tokyo Station building, which sits squarely on the Marunouchi side of the station, overlooks the Imperial Palace that lies opposite. While it is crowded with business people in the daytime during the week, at night and on holidays it is more quiet. Depending on the time of day, the atmosphere in this part of the city changes completely. While in the last half of the 1990s this area was showing signs of decline, it had a resurgence with the redevelopment by Mitsubishi Estate of the Marunouchi Building and Shin-Marunouchi Building, as well as the large-scale project to preserve and restore the approximately 100 year-old Tokyo Station, which was completed in 2012. A replica was reconstructed of the Mitsubishi Ichigokan, which had originally been built in the Meiji era. In 2010, the Mitsubishi Ichigokan Museum was opened with a new and modern face for the current era. Close to the Imperial Palace is the Tokyo Kaikan that was founded in 1920. The press conferences and award ceremonies for the Akutagawa Prize and the Naoki Prize, both literary awards, are held here. Enjoy an elegant tea time at the Cafe Terrace while overlooking the Imperial Palace. It is currently being rebuilt for a planned opening in the spring of 2018.
