Okubo Restaurant Guide

Okubo is in the Shinjuku district of Tokyo. It is an area with many educational institutions, including Waseda University, private junior high and high schools, as well as vocational colleges. Between Okubo Station and Shin-Okubo Station there is a distance of 300 meters. Around Shin-Okubo Station, from Okubo Street to Shokuan Street, it is crowded with many Korean restaurants and shops that sell Korean-related goods. The largest Korea-town in Tokyo is centered in Okubo and Hyakunincho. There are not only Korean-related shops in this area, but also Chinese and Southeast Asian bars, restaurants, and general stores. Being next to Shinjuku it is in a good location, and recently there has been a proposal to promote this area as a tourist destination in cooperation with the local Japanese merchants association. In recent years, there has been large-scale redevelopment in the area sandwiched between the Yamanote Line and the Nishi-Waseda Campus of Waseda University. The redevelopment area has been called "Shinjuku Sky Forest", and the Sky Forest Tower is scheduled to be completed at the end of 2014.
