Great food and great service. I ordered a salad and fried oysters. I had never eaten such a tasty vegetable salad. I would certainly go to this restaurant next time I travel to Hiroshima.

Kakiden is located about a short 5 minute walk from the back side of Hiroshima station. Ask the information desk at the station for a street map and it'll be easy to locate, especially since exiting the station from the back was the most difficult to do (you need to take an underground tunnel to ex...it). Our criteria was that we really wanted to have the famous Hiroshima oysters but was looking for a lunch option, so this one fit the bill. We particularly enjoy the smaller family owned, neighborhood gem type options and Kakiden is especially unique in that they are open for both lunch and dinner! Anyway, back to lunch, it was OUT OF THIS WORLD FABULOUS! Kakiden does NOT serve any raw oysters...just cooked in a variety of delicious options. I am now a convert...cooked is far more delicious than raw! We are huge sake lovers and the owner hand selects his sakes so we just left it up to him to pair the sake with our dishes and he did not disappoint...perfectly balanced and delicious! Guess what....our lunch was sooooooo fantastic that we returned 7 hours later for dinner that same day as we knew that we would regret it forever if we didn't eat there again before we left Hiroshima that night! To add icing on the cake, not only was the food/sake wonderful but the service is terrific and friendly AND the prices are very reasonable. They also have an English menu that's a 1 inch binder, complete with photos and detailed descriptions of each dish, which by the way are very unique so you can really enjoy the full experience. Don't miss Kakiden....it's THAT awesomely wonderful! In our 20+ years of traveling in Japan and trying 100's of restaurants, Kakiden is definitely on our "must return" list!

A very quaint restaurant focused on delicious seafood - especially oysters. But don't expect much from their English menu- which didn't seem linked to their Japanese one and almost seemed like a many from another restaurant. We just asked our waiter for recommendations and he didn't disappoint - the... oysters were huge, delicious, and juicy. We also had some grilled fish, musubi/rice balls, and a side of cold tofu - all worth it. They do allow smoking inside if you're sensitive to cigarettes.

The concierge at our hotel recommended this restaurants when we told her we wanted to have oysters. We were greeted warmly by the head server who pampered us. There is an English menu which has most but not all of what is in the Japanese menu. They have an excellent selection of Hiroshima sakes (I h...ad three different styles, all of which were very good), and two separate menus--one with oyster dishes and one with non-oyster dishes. My wife and I wanted oysters and started with a baked oyster dish that had a sauce of minced carrots, ginger, and something we just couldn't quite place. That was followed by marinated oysters. We ended with pan fried oysters. We loved each dish and remarked that they were Japanese versions of oysters Rockerfeller, raw oysters, and deep fried oysters. Great experience. If you like cooked oysters, this is definitely a good place to get them.
