Okonomiyaki Wakataka

Not easy to locate this place although few door away from Ichiran Noodle shop. You need to look up for the signage under Wakataka. Take lift up to L3. Relatively quiet during lunch. The lady staff prepared our okonomiyaki until the male chef came. Observing how they prepare differ from another fam...ous shop we ate. It is like comparing street food vs restaurant standard . Of course everyone visiting Hiroshima and the Atomic Dome gravitates towards the nearby restaurants for the local delicacy of okonomiyaki. I noticed how quickly the ground-level restaurants fills with long lines outside. As we walked down the street, a young man waved at us and told us to jump in a ...lift to the 3rd floor - being Wakataka. It seemed an unusual restaurant as it was filled with locals and we were the only Westerners there. The food was amazing and my okonomiyaki was perfect and presented sizzling on the large hotplate which made up the table centre. So if you're visiting Hiroshima, step past the ground level restaurants and seek out Wakataka for an authentic okonomiyaki.

We had some people tell us to try the okonomiyaki in Hiroshima & found Hakataka (in a covered shopping mall on the 3rd floor) as it was recommended in the tourist magazine. It is very close to Peace Park & public transport & is open for lunch & dinner. When getting out of the lift you are met by fa...irly uninspiring view, but the staff are very friendly (not a lot of English) & helpful. We ordered the special okonomiyaki, and had a table right in front so were able to watch them go through the preparation & cooking process. When ready it is delivered to your table onto the small hotplate which kept it warm whilst we ate. It was very tasty & filling. It is also prepared very quickly so excellent if you want a quick meal during your signtseeing. A fairly limited drink selection but they did have softdrinks & draft beers. All up for 4 beers & 2 okonomiyaki - 4060 yen so pretty reasonable as very filling (no desert required).

Very nice atmosphere and good service. The okonomiyaki is their specialty and they make it just right. Loved the warm table top that kept the okonomiyaki hot while I was eating it. Great sauces and condiments. Drinks and energy level was good. Very spacious. Good for large groups. A must try while... visiting Hiroshima. Very easy to find.

I tasted my first original okonomiyaki at this restaurant and I really like it in terms of presentation and taste. Remembering the taste now makes me want to eat again! Anyways, the table is a big frying pan to keep the okonomiyaki warm. It is definitely an interesting way to have a meal and a memor...able one. The location is also very strategic where you could return to shopping after having your meals here. Also, nearby to the peace memorial park.
