Funachu

We walked in to this quaint little restaurant on a whim, felt like the eel dishes advertised outside. The restaurant is a little of the main drag in ASAKUSA, but we’ll worth a detour. The eel that we felt like was great, but in addition we had a really wonderful seafood carpaccio, and a tofu and veg...etable salad and a combo dish. All dishes were really outstanding, and the service and atmosphere are great as well. Highly recommend!

We found this place in Asakusa while specifically looking for unagi, grilled eel with sauce, I've had it many times before and this place is especially good at it. We were very happy. Many restaurants serving unagi will only have dishes with unagi, but Hanakawado Funachu also had an option to get un...agi with yakitori so you could try them both, plus a few other choices. Not only was the food top notch, but the service was especially warm and friendly and that's saying something as Japanese customer service is on another level. The woman who served us seemed delighted that we liked the food and was especially warm, sincerely friendly and informative. As a bonus the restaurant is located within easy walking distance of Senso-ji, a gorgeous Buddhist temple. We will definitely return someday on another trip to Japan, highly recommended!

Stumbled across this place whilst looking for a somewhere to eat near our hotel. Tried some grilled Unagi (eel) for the first time, which was really good. Washed down with some ice cold Asahi - lovely
