“A Yakitori and Oden Delight”
We all have our "goto" spots. Places we want to keep secret from outsiders so we do not have to wait in line for a table if we just happen to drop by. With the end of my work assignment in Japan, I am revealing Jidoriya as the final one of those places. Jidoriya is my favorite spot for yakitori and... oden. A meal will start out with otoshi which is always unique and tasty. Then I will need to select some oden and sake. The oden is Shizouka style which not everyone likes but I find delicious. The sake selection is frequently changed. Fortunately there is only a few on hand at any one time since I always am intrigued and want to sample each one! Finally it is on to the yakitori which the master grills to perfection. In the meantime his wife is running the bar and restaurant floor with her exuberant charm. If you are at Jidoriya, you are there for the food or company, not to gaze around at any sort of special decore. It is not a place you bring some one to impress expecting oil originals on the walls and silver tableware. We always sit at the counter and many times have engaged in conversation with other interesting patrons.
