“Delicious pizza and cakes, great stop on way to Hakone”
We needed a place to stop for lunch on the drive from Tokyo to Hakone and decided upon Macaroni Market given its close distance to the expressway. In addition to the restaurant, there is a bakery with delicious baked goods and a large selection of cakes. The menu is large with lunch sets being a gre...at value. For about Y1600 you can get a drink, salad, all you can eat bread from the bread buffet, pizza or pasta, and a dessert. We tried the margarita and pepperoni pizzas and both were delicious. The bread buffet has a wide variety of items: pizza, garlic bread, honey toast, brioche, raisin bread etc. All three cakes we tried: shortcake, peach Melba, and raspberry tart were great. Highly recommend this restaurant. It is next to Hama Sushi.

“Great food!”
We really loved our dinner at Macaroni Market. We had a setmenu with bread, a ceasarsalad, pizza, pasta, cake and softdrinks for ¥2400 per person. The best pizza we've had in Japan!

“Good pizza, Pasta…not really good”
We stopped by Macaroni Market after a day at a local water park. It was on a Thursday evening, and we went early. There was only one other table of people when we arrived. When we left…the place was PACKED! I can imagine on the weekends this place must be crazy busy, so recommend going early. The m...enu is not like your typical menu at an Italian restaurant- in the sense they have many different “Course” options to choose from. For these courses, prices will be like JPY 2000 – 2500 per person. You get to pick so many different options, and that coupled with what course to choose from, you’ll find yourself checking the menu out for like 20 minutes! We went with 3 adults and 2 kids, so we chose a 3 person course meal for the adults (get 2 appetizers, big Caesar salad, 2 pastas, 1 pizza, and a dessert) and just had the kids get a pasta and a pizza. With the course, you can also choose from all you can drink iced tea- suggest getting the tropical iced tea (instead of the peach tea) as it is un-sweetened. They have sugar water on the table so you can add as much (or little) as you want. Meal started off with complementary bread, served with some olive oil. They could’ve provided more oil, and did not come with any balsamic vinegar. In their defense, we did not ask for more oil or if they had any vinegar. We were too hungry. For the appetizers, we got the clams/shrimp/mussels appetizer. It was OK in flavor, but portion was small! Literally a couple items per person. Would also have liked if they provided some bread to sop up some of the juice…but was told you need to buy an order of bread for that. The Caesar salad was large, which we had to cut with knife to serve. Was loaded with shredded parmesan cheese, but the dressing was not like your typical dressing. Appeared to be out of the bottle and was very light in flavor. No hint of anchovy or lemon at all. Pizza came out first, and we got the mushroom sausage pizza. It was not tomato based but the flavor was pretty good. Had a very “smoky” kinda taste to it. The pizzas are NOT big…I’d say you’re looking at like a 14 inch pie. Crust could’ve been crispier, but overall was a pretty decent pizza. They cook it in a wood fired pizza oven, and as a result, you get a pretty decent pizza. The kids “lasagna pizza” came out. Was just a margarita pizza with a few clumps of chop meat on it literally. Flavor was VERY GOOD! Once again… was too small in size… Our first pasta came out- was a tomato based pizza with some veggies in it. Flavor was very light. Wife liked it more than I did…I prefer a more hearty/heavy flavor. Portion was, as you can guess, small. Flavor was pretty “Italian-like”. Our next pasta was a cream based one with shrimp and scallops. The flavor was…weird. Not that good. Not inedible, but very disappointing nonetheless. Kids pasta was last to come out- they got the meat sauce pasta. This was just bad. Normally most Italian joints can get this one right…they got it WRONG. First off the flavor was not “Italian” at all. Was like the sauce you get on Japanese meatloaf/burger. It was just not good at all…sorta like something you would expect on an airplane…or maybe at a highway rest stop. Stay away from this dish by all means! The service was pretty good…we drank a ton of tea, and the servers were very quick to refill them all the time- even though they got very busy in the end. They did not have any Pepper Mill on the table, so for every dish that came out, we had to flag the waiter down for fresh pepper. After the second dish, you could see he was not happy. I’m sure his arm was cramping up towards the end. And we also asked for cheese as well! They were NOT stingy on the cheese. Totally loaded up our dishes until we had to tell them enough. Overall, especially in the end, the wait staff was able to handle the load of people pretty well. Lastly, the desserts were pretty decent. Nothing too special. We chose 3 different cheesecake types of desserts. I’d say they were better than average. Overall, the place is nice, can sit a lot of people, especially if you have a large group. From having 3 pasta dishes and 2 pizza dishes only, I would say stay away from the pasta and just get the pizza. Might be a little unfair to say since we only tried 3 pastas there…but the pizza…pretty darn good! I’d also say stay away from the “courses”, and just go there for a big pizza party.

“Nice food + superb ambience + SLOW service”
A decent choice if you are willing to wait to be served during the peak hours. (Possible Discomfort) 1) There seems to a lack of leadership (or management) on the floor during the rush hour. We had to wait for 10-20 minues for the cakes and coffee to arrive. Japanese are not accustomed to be forced... to wait in restaurants (especially when dining with kids). 2) Floor is full of kids and families which may irritate the non-kids family. (Comfort) 1) food quality is competitive with those of "standard" Italian restaurants in Tokyo. 2) Laid-back and spacious ambience will suffice your time with the family. 3) A full variation of home-made pies and cakes Make sure to 1) book in advance, and 2) have suffient patience like Mother Teresa to wait to be served.
