“Unwelcoming Sushi House”
Umai Sushikan is a sushi specialist in the Akasaka area. The restaurant is clean and bright. Servers might not be rude, but they do not show the slightest sign of welcoming our presence. Sashimi dishes do not look enticing, and the quality is mediocre at best. While the Aburi Maguro Otoro Sushi ...(JPY 550/pc) which melts in your mouth is tasty, the lukewarm Chawanmushi with Crab Meat is tasteless. There are definitely better options for sushi in the neighbourhood.

“Excellent Sushi for Reasonable Cost”
I have been going here for many years and have always had a really great time and really good food. Wether alone or with colleagues or friends, always welcoming and lively. The sushi has always been excellent and other cooked dishes equally good. Having lived in Japan and enjoying sushi, this is one... of the best for the price. The chefs can recommend and it’s always good to ask what their recommendations are. All in all well worth a visit.

“Great late night sushi!”
We had just arrived in Tokyo from the US in the late afternoon and checked into our hotel, The Prince Gallery. We took a nap and woke up a little later than expected and headed out for dinner at around 11pm on a Friday night. The hotel gave us a map of some local Akasaka restaurants nearby and hig...hlighted a few which would be open late. Umai Sushikan was one of them and it looked good to us so we headed over (less than 10 minute walk). It's a small place, full of locals, and we ordered icy draft beers and two deluxe sushi plates. The quality was really good and the service pretty fast and attentive. We tend to go to a lot of the same places in Tokyo over and over again (e.g. Sushi Zanmai), so it was nice to try a new place. We'd definitely return!

“Good sushi restaurant”
Reasonably priced and generous portions. Friendly staff and English menu available. Busy place with most patrons being Japanese. Rather uncomfortable counter seats.

“Super tasty”
I did not have a lot of opportunities to eat sushi while in Japan. However, Umai was highly rated on a food site and was across the street from where my meetings were so I thought I'd give it a go. I just walked in, and there was one spot left at the bar so I got lucky. The staff is super friendly a...nd nice. I ordered a nigiri sampler. The red clam was Soooooo good. One of the sushi chef made me little red clam sashimi flowers just because. A local sitting next to me says she travels across the city to come to Umai and feels it is one of the best. I wish I had an opportunity to eat there again.
