CANAL CAFE

Just over the bridge from the West Exit of Iidabashi station, the cafe is down a few steps from the road, right beside the canal. You order at the counter and collect your order from the counter too. The view is lovely. It is quiet and peaceful and the icecreams and pizza are delicious. They have ot...her food but that is what we chose. Peach icecream was wonderful with a real fresh fruit taste and a crisp wafer to go with it. The pizza was distinctly moreish and the hot yuzu drink delightfully warming on a winter’s day. You can buy little packets of fish food from the counter to feed the carp in the canal which was once part of the old castle moat.

Recently moved to the area and have eaten here several times. This week my family is in town and we passed by the cafe while showing them around Kagurazaka, I wanted to show them the view (there is no blockage, you can walk directly to the deck) since I’ve planned on taking them here for lunch later... this week, however there was an extremely rude elderly man who hushed us out by saying we cannot enter if we are ‘only taking a look / not spending money’ with a very bad attitude, which is quite rare in Japan, I was shocked. I go to many restaurants around the world and this was the first negative experience in Japan.

Beautiful location on the river in the heart of Tokyo. Good food, service so so... Strange, now days it is not busy at all, because of the corona situation, so you would think service would be great.. It wasn't so good. But I enjoyed the location and had a nice lunch.

(Nov-2020) Visited with friends for lunch at the restaurant side. Had the terrace table. There are heater stove, if needed but our lunch day was superb. View was great as expected and it was not very crowded too. Pizzas and I had shrimp and mushroom spaghettini. All were delicious. You could choo...se added option of extra Yen1,000- to get full lunch set - choices for each of appetizer, drink and dessert or Yen200- - drink choices. Must admit, the service was not fast, as noted by others. Most appear to be new in the job. Possibly due to staff shortage ?? Our coffee was really, really strong that we had them changed for some reasons. Very close to Iidabashi station, B2a exit is the closest from underground trains and JR Line, about 2 minutes walk. Would be superb in the Spring time.

You get to sit right at the water’s edge below a Sakura tree on a deck built in the canal. Great ambience and views during Sakura but the desserts were nothing special.
