TonchangUeno

If you are in a tight budget and looking for a cheap and delicious meal, then this place is for you. Tonchang is a Korean barbecue restaurant located in Ueno, Taito city, in Tokyo. As we we're walking in that area, I noticed a long line waiting for their turn to dine in this restaurant. So we decide...d to join the long queue to find out if the food they're serving was really good. We ordered their two popular items which are: The pork barbecue and Japchae ( glass noodles). The meat was not so tender but it is really tasty and so were all the side dishes and dips. Overall we enjoyed our meal and would recommend to those who loves to eat Korean barbecue.

The place is mainly Korean barbeque, but where the server will grill the food for you, as opposed to where you do it yourself. It has a great selection of various stews and soups, or popular dishes like pancakes and noodle dishes, as well as an assortment of Korean (and Japanese) alcohol. Seems to s...eat about 4 people per table. They have English menus. We ordered the moriawase (mix) meats for two people, as well as a kimchi pancake. I've eaten a lot of Korean food, but it was my friend's first foray into Korean food. I definitely really think Toncha was a good introduction, the pancakes especially tasted really authentic. However the banchan was sort of mediocre and wasn't refilled like I'm used to. The music is somewhat loud (we visited at around 10 pm) and the service wasn't beyond cordial. All in all, really good Korean BBQ with a big selection, and probably an amazing experience if you order a few drinks too.

With out doubt one of the more interesting places to eat in Tokyo. Places where they cook food at your table are without doubt the best as you really get involved in the evening and food. The staff were very friendly and the gentleman(napal) who served us and cooked our food was very chatty and ke...pt us entertained whilst at the table. Food was fresh and the cuts were really nice! They didn't have the set menu that we wanted but the chef recommended another set for us that we enjoyed. The only reason this got 4 instead of 5 stars was that I left still feeling hungry but I think this can be resolved by ordering rice with your food.
