“Good Ramen”
This is a somewhat out of the way restaurant which appears to cater to locals including University folks. We were immediately welcomed and seated. English menus are available. Ordering was relatively simple and our food was ready quickly. Our food was quite tasty and filling. We found it within... walking distance of our hotel (Hotel Okura Kyoto Okazaki Bettei) so it was convenient. Worth the visit.

“Inferior udon served with un-Japanese haste.”
We visited the nearby National Museum of Modern Art and one of the staff there suggested this place as an OK nearby reasonably priced restaurant. Quite disappointing. It was a mystery to us why there was a line of people waiting to get in for lunch. The line went quickly and we discovered why. The p...lace was operated like a factory, not at all the Japanese experience we had elsewhere. Their goal seemed to be to get you in, feed you fast, and get you out. We had udon dishes. They were inferior to other udon examples we had had. Not much noodles, not much broth and the two shrimp tempura quickly became soggy as they were placed in the bowl. The price, while not high, was more than other udon restaurants we had been to. And the clientele was about half non-Japanese, never a good sign. Give it a pass.

“Great lunch noodle spot”
Hidden around the corner from two very popular noodle shops is this gem. Restaurant was busy, but we only waited 15-20 mins for a table. Fairly traditional, but they did have an English menu and some English speaking staff. Great udon and amazing tempura. We did two set lunches and added a tempura... assortment. Very good meal for a quick decision on the fly!

“Cool atmosphere”
We stumbled upon this restaurant during lunch. We were very hungry. The service was quick and the waitresses were so kind. The atmosphere was great. We could choose Japanese style seating or western style. The udon noodle broth was delicious. The tempura was average. The experience was still delight...ful.

“Japanese noodle”
This is an authentic Japanese noddles' restaurant. Great for a quick lunch while visiting Kyoto sites. They have tatami style tables, the staff dresses in traditional clothing. Friendly staff and have an English menu.
