“Delicious and entertaining”
We were looking for a restaurant in Kyoto that would have a lot of vegetable choices. Vege-tejiya delivered the vegetables but far more. There was no English menu, but none is needed. The friendly, good-humored staff worked through the explanations in English. Despite the name, the restaurant ...actually features barbecued meats (their number 1 is an extra thick cut slice of American bacon) with many vegetable sides. The meats cook at the table, are wrapped in lettuce, seasoned with sauces of your choice, and topped with vegetables before being rolled into a single bite lettuce taco. The flavors were easy for an american palette to enjoy, even for our elementary school aged daughter. The dishes themselves were an inventive fusion of Korean and Japanese, with elements of Mexican cuisine (flour tortillas and pots of melted cheese were available for dipping and wrapping). It’s certainly not a flavor profile or cuisine we had ever seen in the US. This restaurant was fun entertainment, delicious, and worthy of an evening out in Kyoto.
