Brutal and savage bartender scolded us when we entered No clear sign about taking the shoes off on the entrance His rudeness made us leave the place at once so beware of this place I have never met any rude japanese ever. I can understand that so many similar people had same experiences in goog...le review Avoid this place unless you like being treated badly

“Great environment and selection, awful hospitality”
Lovely bar, great location, great whisky selection. However, the bartender seemed hell bent on avoiding having any customers. Greeted any new arrivals with an aggressive questioning about the cover charge, payment methods, and so on. Didn’t engage us in conversation. Told me off for touching bottles... lined up on the bar. Possibly the only rude Japanese person we met in 15 days in this wonderful country. Such a shame.

“Poor”
We have been there tonight with my wife... Place is nice and cosy.. Jazz music in the very background... Price are a bit high and you have to pay a 500 yen charge to seat per person... One thing that shocked us, align with the previous comment... All customers (japanese) got snacks with their drinks...... we were not offers any... Maybe we should have asked... Nevertheless this place is average... nice but nothing incredible... Large choice of whisky for sure... but you can find much better for a better price in a better place in Kyoto for sure...

“Perfect ambience along the river”
I went with my wife's family for after dinner drinks. We sat on the "Yuka," which is a raised wooden deck platform which extends beyond the restaurant towards the river. The breeze was pleasant on a hot, humid Kyoto summer night. The staff were perfect and the drinks were great. Not exactly cheap, ...but I think it was a good price for this type of experience in this location. Recommended. Enjoy!

“Whisky was good, bartender was a jerk.”
Went to this bar in the middle of a Saturday night. Was sober and respectful. Took off my shoes, sat where I was asked. Bartender refused to sell us a 21 year old hibiki off the shelf. Would only sell the 17 year old. He was friendly with all of the Japanese customers but not engaging with us at all.... On the way out he threw open an upper window and watched leave in a way as if to suggest we not return. Not an issue. This was the worst host experience of many I have had in Kyoto.
