“Decent Food but Smoky Interior”
Ww sat down and ordered before we realized that this place allows people to smoke at the table. The ash tray should have been a tip-off but, unfortunately, we didn't pick up on that. As soon as our food started to arrive several people in the restaurant started to smoke. It was a very unpleasant exp...erience.

“Open during lunch, basic eats”
Trying to avoid the crowd in central Gion, we wandered down Pontocho. Most places don't open until 5 pm. This place was open for lunch and had picture and English menus. We didn't even know the name of it until I spotted the Instagram handle. We ordered the duck set which came with udon soup that ha...d a piece of duck and semi smoked hardboiled egg, minced duck and scrambled egg over rice, and a few other bits and bobs (sweet potato, green pepper, some sort of roll) which was 1500 yen. We added the sashimi (all pieces tasty with only one type that was too fishy for our taste) and black pepper duck which lived up to its name. Note that duck is naturally very fatty as was this dish. Flavor was good, but you'l want other plates. We didnt sample drinks because of the July heat. All in the cost was 5180 yen and we got prompt service. It's a good bet if you're on the off hour of lunch.

“Reasonable restaurant with OK grade sakes served in extremely small compartment room..”
Reasonably priced, ok quality place. It stands in the middle of the fantastic Pontocho street and the experience to be in the area itself makes you fell very special. We were introduced to a very small compartment-like room for two people where we had a major problem... As we are not get used to s...it directly on the floor, having time in a tiny room without chair has been a painful experience.. The quality of sakes served in this restaurant was not that impressive. So, yes, the location is fantastic and the price of sake and food are reasonable and in overall, ok, not bad. But I am sure there are hundreds of wonderful restaurants nearby....though they must be much more costly than this place for sure... Recommended for budget traveller. 先斗町の良い場所にありますし、全体として悪いわけではありませんが、リーズナブルな居酒屋というコンセプトで営業されていると思いますので、お酒もお料理も特筆すべきものは無かったです。先斗町で飲めた、この一言の為でした。

“Kyoto cuisine in Pontocho”
Close to Kawaramachi station, Pontocho is an old, atmospheric dining (night life) area, next to Kamogawa (Kamo river). Minamian offers Kyoto cuisine, including Obanzai, namafu, tofu, and Kyogamo (Kyoto duck) dishes. Most dishes have delicate taste and some people might find them very bland but that...'s how you enjoy the taste of (good) ingredients. Everything tasted very fresh. This place also offers many varieties of sake from various breweries in Fushimi, Kyoto. This is a good place to go if you want to experience Kyoto food and sake for a fair price. (But I don't know whether they have an English menu or the staff speaks English.)
