Pig&Whistle

Stopped in to the Pig and Whistle pib located across the road from our accommodation to watch AFL match. Upstairs on level 2. British style decor with various screens playing Aussie rules football, rugby and EPL football. Plenty of room to sit in secluded areas or amongst other travellers. Clean ven...ue and friendly staff. Reasonable prices. If you want to watch sport this is the place to go to in Kyoto in the Gion district.

Definitely one of my favourite bars in Kyoto. I lived in nearby Kusatsu and would travel to Kyoto just to visit the Pig. The staff are amazing and very warm. Always a good selection of beers and at a fair price. Excellent atmosphere, always made to feel very welcome. I'd recommend the Pig for anyo...ne who wants a quick pint or to go on a massive bender. Drink hearty friends.

We have thoroughly enjoyed Japanese cuisine but finding this 'British' pub just around the corner from our hotel, we fancied a taste of home. We were the only customers at 7 pm but got a warm welcome. The chips were more like small potato wedges, but the fish was good and significantly cheaper tha...n the UK.

Really friendly staff but as others have said the pub needs a good clean. Their pints of Guinness were expensive but their fish’n’chips and other bar food was cheap. Convenient as opposite our hotel for any easy pit stop rather than the hotel bar but wouldn’t recommend unless you are nearby.

Husband and I, from Australia, were worn out from translating menus and wanted a familiar meal. This is across the road from our hotel. We received great service from everyone, the menu is quite basic and we were concerned, but we enjoyed our beef cottage pie and wedges. We played darts whilst we... waited for our meal. It was a rainy night and it was good fun. I’d recommend it to any poms or aussies who need a home fix.
