“Ruined by a self-important assistant cook who was terrible in both Japanese and English”
We love this restaurant and have been going at least once a year since 2017 even though we don’t live in Japan. Today our experience was ruined by an assistant cook who felt so important but also did not speak either Japanese or English well. From the start her vibe was “I’m in charge here” and not ...in a good way. Even during the simple act of handing out each of the tempura to us it felt so aggressive. But the worst was near the end of the course she asked in terrible Japanese (my girlfriend is Japanese) and then in equally terrible English (English is one of two of my first languages) if she can clear my plates and she asked several times in a very rude way. My girlfriend and I said no at least 2x in both languages but she kept asking anyway as if she didn’t understand “no” in both languages. In the end we just let her take my plates even though I wanted to eat some more and order more tempura which is traditionally what I do when I go to this restaurant. She definitely ruined our experience. There was truly no harmony/peace in this dining experience because of her.

“My favourite meal in Japan!”
I didn’t have a reservation but I turned up to Tempura Abe at 5pm and was the first person there! For most of my meal, I was the only person in this tiny restaurant being served mouth-watering morsels by Abe-san himself. It was such a treat! Like other reviewers have said, this tempura is in a diffe...rent class from the thick, often soggy tempura that you get in Western restaurants. Abe-san’s tempura is beautifully light, crispy and fresh. He prepared a great mix of mainly seafood and vegetables - I think my favourite was the juicy, sweet and crispy scallop. Paired with some lovely dry sake, it was a foodie’s dream. My mouth is watering just writing about it now!

“Wonderful Tempura Omakase at Tempura Abe (Ginza)”
Fantastic tempura Omakase meal with Chef Abe. Our concierge at Hotel The Celestine Ginza recommended and set up a reservation. Each course was a light tempura with fresh vegetables and fish. Highly recommend.

“10/10 made my time in Japan”
Absolutely devine! I got the set menu. The tempura was hot. The ebi prawn rice dish was amazing and the yuzu sorbet was a treat.

“A Tasting Menu of Tempura”
A tempura treat for a Westerner. Tempura in America: a mound of sometimes soggy vegetables and shrimp, caked in a thick batter. At tempura Abe Ginza, sit at the 8 or so person counter and have delicately battered and perfectly fried courses, sequentially appear before you. Everything is perfectly... hot and crisp.
