“Absolutely fabulous time here!”

Easily stated I really loved this place. In my week long trip to Tokyo I ate here 4 times. Very delicious and satisfying meals. We came here looking for an authentic Sumo Chanko dining experience and we weren't let down. Its a formal entry at the end of the mall its a nice restaurant. A maitre d... greeted us and took us to our booth. Period Japanese music played and sumo wrestling is on repeat on several screens in the restaurant. They had a English menu for us to help in understanding the ordering process. The soy sesame wings and snow crab leg are excellent! as we ate appetizers the hot chanko pot was being cooked at our table. The chanko was so appetizing and fulling. We were very satisfied each time. The staff including the manager Hideki made us feel comfortable and bridged the language gap to make us feel welcomed. I cannot recommend this place enough.

Bring your appetite! For openers, Sashimi, snails, crab legs, Next chicken and fish Then the chanko nabe: huge hot pot of meats and vegetables. All very tasty, and very close to the kokugikan (sumo stadium) There are sumo videos playing while you eat.

“Glad we tried it, but too expensive to try again”

This was the only place we came across that was open after 2pm when many places close until dinner @5. Slightly rundown looking, but the food was fine. This was our first time having chanko nabe, and though we enjoyed it, we're coming to the conclusion that nabe is best made at home. Far too expe...nsive in restaurants. This menu had cheaper options than other places we looked at, but we still paid more than ¥10,000 for three of us to eat. The nabe was ¥3030 pp, and once we ordered a la carte for our son, added on drinks as well as noodles to add to the pot...too much. No need for a repeat visit.

“CHANKO KIRISHIMA - BIG DISAPPOINTMENTI”

After reading the biography of Kirishima Kazuhiro, which tells us about the life of a Sumo Champion, his school (heya) and his restaurant, I have decided to come to eat in his place in Ryoggoku. It was a sunday early afternoon, the 11th of may 14. the room was far to be full then it was easy to get... a place. The food was extremely good and the service was as good it can be when you do not speak any other language than the local language. I spent a rather good time there, so good that, today, 22nd of May, I decided to return there to have a dinner. The place was packed, only one free table was left. I meant that I could sit even if I have to share the place with other people. The manager of the place, and probably the cook, with one towel made some aggressive movement towards me, to show me his disapproval to have me sit alone on a table of 4, that I could understood if explained with politeness and calm. On the contrary, he got more excited, and as I had not a way to express myself, as I do not speak Japonese, he showed me the door, like he could have done it for a dog. As per the book and the biography of Kirishima, the attitude of this manager is absolutely opposite to the human values which have brought Kirishima to create this place. As per the Japonese code of politeness, it is the first time since I am in Japan, that I am meeting with such a rude, aggressive and brutal behavior . It could have happened elsewhere, unfortunately it has happened in what I still consider the place of Mr Kirishima, and it has desacralized it. Such an attitude should be bared in a place like that, which is not just a simple restaurant. This manager is not at his place there and probably should change of work.

We found this place by chance and would highly recommend it. The decor is simple, the staff are friendly and the chanko-nabe was great.
