It got to that time when I’d been walking and exploring and hadn’t eaten for hours, and felt like a bowl of filling meat and rice. Matsuya isn’t a gourmet restaurant, but it is a small chain of outlets where you go in and order your meal from a touch screen machine (also in English!) and take your t...icket to the diner-style bar and they prepare it and deliver it to you at the diner bar. I ordered Gyu-Don (beef rice bowl) which comes with miso soup iced water for 490 yen. You can watch it all being cooked and assembled. Great value, and delicious Japanese fast food. Very popular with locals.

It's not gourmet dining but it's cheap and decent food. I really like the barbecued beef set and order that exclusively. This time, I ordered the large size for lunch. It was just too much food! If you want a good value for your money, get a set meal. It comes with soup, salad, rice and your choic...e of protein. And all the free water you can drink. I just wish there were Matsuyas in New York.
