Nice place to try authentic Okinawan cuisine. Mon our server was pleasant and helpful in accomodating a vegetarian dish and explaining what was what. Neat atmosphere!

“Authentic Ryukyuan food at a good price”

I was wandering around Kokusai-dori tonight looking for a restaurant where I could relax, get delicious authentic Okinawan food, and not get treated like a tourist. I was looking for both zouki soba and sea grapes. I saw the menu for Ryusen, and I decided to go downstairs and give it a try. The food... was very good, and just as I remember Okinawan food from previous visits. The atmosphere of the restaurant was also good. It’s a larger restaurant than many. In total, I had the zouki soba with oxtail in it, sea grapes, the mandatory appetizer which was konbu and aburage tofu, also ordered an Okinawan lime liquor on the rocks and an iced oolong tea. And my total was only 2717 yen (about $18.50). To me, a bargain. I’m adding this to my list of restaurants for my next visit. I really enjoyed it.

“Okinawa ramen: Perfect for rainy night”

Our cycling tour group set us loose in Kokusai-dori for dinner and there were heaps of choices. But we wanted something we had not had before and a billboard advertising Okinawa-style ramen fitted the bill. We sat at low tables that, thankfully, as a pit for our legs. We had cycled a fair bit that d...ay and were a little sore. A very reasonably-priced set meal comprised a bowl of ramen, a bowl of flavoured rice, a couple of gyozas, and some pickled vegetable. We ordered a beef sushi beef out of curiosity and greed. And we had some delicious mango cocktails and a glass of Ryusen whisky. Both were super. In the past few months, we had been trying various styles of ramen in Perth which are surprisingly authentic (we had had ramen in Tokyo and Narita). This version was as good as any we had had. The differences in style are hard to detect but they are there. The broth here was not as robust as some but still featured complexity and balance. The gyozas were tasty and the flavoured rice went well with it and the beef sushi. Japanese whisky has a well-deserved reputation for being excellent and the Ryusen served here was very good despite being the middle level among the offerings. Service was friendly and prompt and the restaurant accepts credit cards.

“I will come back again”

Ryusen is a Japanese restaurant. Food is good and the price is reasonable. I have had a lunch here and have ordered Agu Pork Shabu Shabu, Soft Pork Rib Ramen (around 1100 yen) and Ryukyu Ramen (1120 yen). Although the price for Agu pork Shabu Shabu (2300 yen) is relatively higher than the other set ...meals, it was delicious as well as Agu pork is one of the famous local food in Okinawa. The soup of Ramen was rich, the Ramen was very al dente and the meat was soft and tender.
