“Authentic Okinawan Eats on a Busy Shopping Street”

Reviewed 11/Jun/2025

My husband and I had never been to Okinawa before, so we watched a lot of young YouTube vloggers imparting their knowledge of the local sights and cuisine. This restaurant on the tourist-centric Kokusai Dori came up more than once as a good entry point for Okinawan cuisine accompanied by live music ...if you time your arrival right. We didn't, but frankly, we were kinda tired from our three-hour flight from Tokyo. Demurring on the tatami dining option because we didn't want to do yoga, we probably would've started snoring during the Ryukyu dance performance and probably set back US-Japan relations at least a century. Good thing we studied the food online before we got here because the tablet menu wasn't that helpful. As we navigated the selections, a complimentary appetizer arrived, a small serving of mimigaa, pickled pig's ear mixed with vegetables. It was quite chewy but flavorful. We were getting pretty thirsty, so my husband ordered the ¥660 Pineapple Cocktail, a highball with a touch of vodka, while I went for the ¥429 Iced Oolong Tea. As for the food, we knew we wanted to try a local favorite, bitter melon, so we ordered the ¥968 Goya Chanpuru, a most satisfying stir-fry mix of sliced goya (bitter melon), scrambled egg, tofu, seaweed, bonito flakes, and thinly sliced pork. We were also curious about the local sea grapes, so we ordered the ¥803 Caulerpa Lentillifera, a local type of algae with soft berry-like balls attached, tasting a bit like tiny fish roe. The grapes were fresh and quite addictive. For our shared main entrees, we got the ¥990 Okinawan-Style Stewed Pork Belly, a big cube of tender meat with a thick layer of fat, and the ¥770 Tempura of Shima Rakkyo, local island shallots deep-fried and surprisingly light. FOOD - 4 stars...Okinawan dishes decently executed AMBIANCE - 4 stars...authentic Okinawan decor SERVICE - 3.5 stars...a bit mechanical with no English spoken TOTAL - 4 stars...good place for Okinawan food rookies like us

“Not the best place”

Tourist trap. Food really average with high prices. Supposed to have a dance show who happens… or not. There is really better place in this street to have better food, cheaper.

I’m so surprise why not much people to recommend this restaurant. Good taste, good location, and good environment.

“Dinner with a cultural dance”

Reviewed 26/Feb/2018

I chanced on this location together with a group of friends - a very interesting chance to get to see an Okinawan cultural dance, along with dinner and drinks. Food was a bit pricey and they charged for the performance fee - it was worth it in retrospect as we didn't have a chance to experience an...ything cultural on this trip.

“The restaurant that can be enjoyed traditional Ryukyu cuisine and live”

Although the appearance of the restaurant looks like a fine restaurant and it is very prominent on the Kokusai-dori street, it has elements of the pub that can be enjoyed easily even by a single person or a small number of people. The interior has colorful Ryukyu's paintings, you'll be able to enjoy not only the dishes but also the luxurious interior decoration. You can enjoy the traditional dance or music of Ryukyu in the salon of the third floor of the restaurant. They are for group customers if anything. In addition, they are only played several times in the evening. You should check the time of playing in advance. Served cuisine is various, such as traditional dishes and home cooking in Ryukyu. Because the restaurant is widen and there are some floors, it may take time from order to serving. Especially during congestion, you have to be careful it. Although the many elements of hospitality, I think that the price of the dishes is reasonable. It may be good to use this restaurant as one of the memories of Okinawa trip.
