Went for dinner with reservation at the teppanyaki counter. The waygu is excellent but too much for the night. Opposite Tsuruya shopping mall.

“Wow!”
Visiting Kumamoto to visit my daughter and her partner I expressed a desire to try an authentic tepenyaki restaurant, having only tried them in the west before. The city was still reeling from the recent earthquakes and despite it being golden week there were few tourists around and many locals had... taken the opportunity to skip away from the aftershocks for a few days. We walked the local restaurant district and came across Kamon, wow we were not disappointed. OK it was the most expensive meal I enjoyed whilst in Japan but yes it was worth it. The service was personal, friendly and excellent, the food was simply amazing, from perfectly cooked sirloin to delicately flavoured scallops. I would be tempted to return to Japan just to come back here again.
