I went there last night w 2 of My GF! Went there becos it said it was 2 M stars. Very disappointing food quality if u ever been to Ippoh in Osaka! Table wasn’t cleaning probably when we took our seats! Serving was a bit in a rush! The chef and waitress were all friendly. The waitress never behav...ed like a M star restaurant staff though! She always hold our tea cups w her fingers into the bowl!!! She tried to be friendly to me by body touch by shoulder! Over price and over rating! Never ever would visit again at that price tag!

Being a big fan of tempura, I always try to arrange a tempura meal every time I travel to Japan. Tempura Tenko has 2 Michelin stars but only a rating of 3.59 (as at the time when I asked the concierge of Hotel Nikko to make a reservation) in Tabelog and was and still is the most highly rated tempu...ra restaurant in Fukuoka in the authoritative foodie website. Upon arriving at the restaurant around 19:30 in a Sunday evening, I was a little surprised to note that my friend and I were the only customers in this 12-seat establishment for the rest of the night. At the time of my booking, I was asked which menu I wanted (i.e. 10,000 yen, 12,000 yen or 15,000 yen). Since I didn’t want to miss out on any nice food, I opted for the 15,000 yen menu for us both. As expected, we’re served with various dishes made with fresh and high quality ingredients. I guess the chef replaced a few items usually found in a tempura omakase menu with some pricier ingredients. So, instead of squid, we’d abalone (big, tender and very delicious). Instead of kisu fish, we’d kinmedai (extra crispy with fins and also very delicious). Other highlights of our dinner included uni (creamy), blowfish milt (even more creamier with a texture like a soft pudding and extremely flavourful) and scallop (fried to perfection with the outside crispy and the inside still raw). I also loved the tendon. However: 1. For non-tempura savoury items, we only had some skipjack tuna sashimi and some cold vegetables. 2. The batter was not evenly applied to two vegetable items. 3. There’s no anago which is one of my favourites. The meal was by no means bad. On the contrary, it’s quite good on the whole. Together with a lot of sake and a beer, the bill was 35,800 yen which was value for money. And given that we’re the only costumers, we didn’t feel intimidated because both the chef and the lady were very friendly though they spoke very little English. Just that the experience paled in comparison with my meals in other top tempura restaurants in Tokyo.
