Located in the Hakata Noodle Street, there are different types of Fukuoka Hakata ramen available. Expect to wait in line during peak hours. You purchase using the vending machine then you line up to wait for a vacant seat. These folks have a spicy radish pickles that you put into the ramen. Thi...s adds spice. The locals we were with explained that this is what makes this place special. As for the ramen, it had a light broth but it was tasty. Can't complain. Added an soft boiled egg, it made my lunch even more tasty.

Upon arrival, one has to order from a machine. We had the #1 seller which was the ramen with 4 slices of lean pork, egg and some veggies in a rich pork broth. We also opted to top up for 2 side dishes - sizeable mentaiko rice and 5 pieces of small gyoza. This was pretty good and filling.

One of the thick broth ones. No options for the broth, but does not matter. It is good, and thick, and not too tainted with boar musk, as opposed to the one across the aisle. But still you will smell the taint in your fingers once you've left the restaurant. Perfect noodle, buttery charsiu (a bit to...o thin, falling apart). Egg is perfectly cooked but not too sweet. Get the special #1, with charsiu slices falling over the rim. (I miss the nori though). Use all the garnish, including sesame, white ginger and crushed garlic. There's no way you cannot adore this.

You really can't go wrong on Ramen Street at Hakata station but this is one of my favourites. Always reliable and it's actually not as busy as some of the others, which is surprising because it's one of the best. Obviously go for the ramen but their rice dishes are pretty good too.

And furthermore the cooks put on a great act. The gyoza was not good but the ramen was the best I have ever had and the rice they made was fantastic. A must to go
