“Great!”
Delicious food, kind service. Not too much English, but will to understand each other, and to help, so great experience. Difficult to book without calling.

“Better than expected ”
We had lunch at Shippoku Hamakatsu. We didn’t make a booking but were able to easily get a table for lunch although we walked in a bit later. We ordered a lunch set and another larger set which were good value. The pork was very fatty but tasty. We could see the strong Chinese influences through... some of the dishes such as the pork and prawn toast. Our sets included sashimi as well as dessert. The food was better than we expected - Japanese and Chinese style dishes served in a more Japanese style. Service was efficiently managed my a head waitress in traditional dress who appeared to manage much of the service. Most guests appeared to be Japanese / locals.

“Not too bad”
I agree with the traveller who wrote that the place lacks of charm. Altough they probably try to appeal a king of "Japan-China-West" charm by reinterpreting the mood of the old times, frankly the result is not really so good. Food was fine, excellent sake, but I had more fun somewhere else.

“Easygoing Shippoku restaurant”
Shippoku cuisine, it sounded very expensive. But this restaurant seemed relatively budget-friendly and easygoing. When I called for reservation, I was said "No need and just come." One would be welcomed by oneself. I ordered 'Shippoku Otakusa course' which is made for the 50th anniversary of this re...staurant and cost 5,000 JPY plus tax per person. Waitresses were friendly and told us about the cuisine. They brought big dishes and we shared them for each. They tasted so good. Tip: We asked a restaurant staff to reserve a 75-min. sightseeing tour from this restaurant. We enjoyed night views from Mt. Inasa and of Megane-bashi Bridge lit up. The taxi driver guided us and drove us to our hotel. It cost 6,000 JPY(including tax) per vehicle.

“Shippoku Cuisine and Whale Meat”
This cozy restaurant is touted by Lonely Planet to be the place to go for Shippoku cuisine without breaking the bank. It's still fairly expensive with the recommended course meal at JPY 7000+ per person. We had mostly the roast beef and 2,500 yen set meals. More interesting for our group was the o...ffering of whale meat. They serve it either as sashimi (7000 yen for an assortment of 7 cuts) or steak (2000 yen) As with most classy restaurants in Japan, the kimono-clad waitresses gave impeccable service. The best dishes were the whale steak and the braised pork. The braised pork especially is to die for. Even if you do not intend to spend too much, come for the pork. At 600 yen per portion it is still considered reasonable. I would recommend for the whale experience or the braised pork.
