“Unfailingly delicious”
Shimakin is my 'go to' mid-range restaurant in Tokyo when entertaining out of town guests. If they are adventurous and like the house speciality, broiled eel, then they will enjoy a really outstanding version of the dish. If they are less adventurous, the bento-box style dinners have enough seasonal... variety to please most people. I once took a large group with several vegans and vegetarians and convinced the kitchen to modify the bento-boxes for them, and they did a great job. The setting is fairly plain and the service fairly perfunctory, but this is somewhere that you go to for the food.

“100 year old restaurant”
This place is great. Nothing is in english so make sure you are ok with that. Order the eel. The only drawback is that they allow smoking so the party next to us (10 company men out for a night of sake and eel) smoked a lot. The place has just a few seats so the smoke bothered us. They have a yummy... dish of satsumo potato topped with broiled miso.
