Lovely traditional Yokohama Style Sukiyaki, yum! So grateful for the western chairs, tables and English menu. Had a delicious Gyunabe lunch set. Happy with the food service and atmosphere! Loved going to a restaurant established in 1895!

“RUDE Waitress ”

I came here with my friends after doing some research online for their popular gyunabe. We were served by this waitress who gave us a really bad attitude the whole time. She gave us glares from time to time. We ordered sukiyaki, and before the beef arrived, she threw the bowl of raw egg (used to d...ip beef) on our table and said "Do Not Touch!". Hmm, yea we know what the raw egg is for and there is no need to raise your voice like that. We were VERY taken aback by her attitude... It is surprisingly unforeseen. What is that for?! We were not too sure why she gave us such attitude. We were not loud or anything. We were guessing its maybe we couldn't understand her japanese style English when she was explaining the menu to us so she thought we were some pesky uncouth chinese customers who doesn't understand english. Firstly, we are from Singapore. And even though our customer service are not the best, we are never treated this way especially in such a reputable and fine dining setting like this. The food was acceptable and quite delicious but the service really spoil our whole mood. We just spent almost 17,000 yen here to be treated like dirt. P.S ( The receptionist at the cashier was really nice tho. He helped us with our shoes and umbrellas before we left the restaurant. We appreciated that last gesture of kindness. Thank you for saving its last grace.) We will never come back again. Sorry, just disappointing.

“Traditional Japanese exceptional customer service ”

This restaurant is tucked away in a side street off central minato Morai amusement park area. Staying at the intercontinental I was able to walk across in around 15 mins. From the main entrance door you walk along a path to the restaurant and is greeted by staff dressed in traditional kimono. It h...as a very refined atmosphere and you’re asked to take off your shoes on arrival and take a seat in the waiting area until called. The dining area is separated into rooms so a larger group can have their own traditional room. The food was absolutely delicious. I had their famous Gyunabe (beef and vegetables and tofu) served with rice, picked and miso soup. The dish is presented with a raw egg to dip the beef. When leaving the restaurant it was pouring with rain and I told them I was walking back and waited to figure out when to step out. The next minute one of staff was coming running out with an umbrella... please take this we don’t want you to get wet. It was such a delightful gesture and exceptional customer service. Being s traditional restaurant you’d expect to be pricey- I paid around AUD 40 for my meal and a beer ... and a free umbrella! They recommend bookings for 2 or more especially for late evening.

“Excellent in every way.”

I was treated to this restaurant by a relative while visiting Yokohama. It is perfectly lovely. We had a private room, with a charming server/hostess/cook who appeared to be dedicated to us alone. The room was serenely Japanese, quiet and comfortable, but with a western-style table and chairs (th...ere were rooms with Japanese-style seating as well, but my relative knew I would be much more comfortable in a chair). The meal included a beverage; I chose a good Japanese beer given the very hot weather. Our server brought the first two courses, which were various selections of beef and vegetables, then brought in the hot plate and began the preparation of our sukiyaki course. The beef just melts in your mouth. The broth was delicious, as were the vegetables cooked in it. It was too much food for me, but it was all so good. It was followed by udon, cooked in the same pan in the drippings, and finished with slices of watermelon. Everything was beautifully presented on a variety of attractive dishes. It was a wonderful experience.
