We found this restaurant on a corner in Shinjuku one evening. Very traditional decor and staff. Some might say it’s a bit dated. I would say it has massive character in the premises and the crew but for me it was exactly the kind of restaurant I wanted to try We went for a set menu of tempura it...ems and these were all cooked to order in front of us. Delicious food and very helpful chef and waiters. Mostly locals dining there as likely that tourists caught up by some of the western options or more ostentatious restaurants focused on tourists Well worth a visit and great value

Excellent little tempura restaurant. We came in at the end of their day and quickly ordered from the Hana and Matsu sets. Food was good, the service was a little rushed, but then it was close to their closing time

Every visit for us to Tokyo isn’t complete without a visit to Funabashiya Honten. We went here twice on our latest trip. It didn’t disappoint, seated at the counter you can watch the chefs work their magic on super fresh seafood and vegetables. It is open from late morning right through to dinner so... pop in at off times to get a seat straight away. Lunch is cheaper than dinner, menu in photo is dinner menu, but it’s all great value for the quality of tempura. Love it and will be back next time.

This is a tempura restaurant with a long history. The overall experience was enjoyable. Get a seat at the counter and you can see the action firsthand and they serve the tempura on a piece by piece basis when you order the set menu. Good experience but just a little pricey.

Wonderful tempura restaurant. Lovely crispy batter and good value at 2000 for the starter set. Also have a vegetarian option which was great. Great service as well. Highly recommended.
