“Hidden gem with exceptional char-grilled unagi ”
My Japanese friend took me here as it was highly recommended by her favorite sushi chef. My conclusion is “local knows best”. They have two locations and we were told to go to the Honten (flagship) location. Both are in Ginza. Lunch did not require reservation but was told for dinner you do need to... call ahead. I ordered Lunch Set B and I was more than satisfied. It came with a generous portion of perfectly char-grilled unagi basted w just the right amount of sweet soy sauce. A few sprinkle of the peppercorn powder further enhanced the overall experience. The sauce was so tasty that I finished all the rice in the bowl. Mindful of carbs, I normally leave half the rice behind. For ¥3,200, this was a steal !!! Other century old places I tried were charging almost twice. The restaurant took up half a block and had quite a traditional look both inside and outside. Servers wear kimono. Both ambience and service were great as well.

“Travel back in time for superb unagi course dinner!”
We have dined at the Chiuyotei restaurant in Ginza many times in the past and always found the eel specialties to be the best! This time we also made arrangements for the original restaurant (also in the Ginza). We were amazed to find ourselves traveling back decades in time with the old fashioned s...ervice, atmosphere and food. What a special experience! We had a private room, and were greeted by name as we arrived. The service was of a level very difficult to find nowadays, both personal and yet traditional/formal. We recommend Chiuyotei highly if you're looking for something very (traditional) Japanese! Considering the value we received on everything, we thought price was very reasonable!

“This is an authentic Japanese eel restaurant ”
When you decide to go to this restaurant, I would like to suggest you to book "hanare" - outside little yet individual room. In old days (and even still now, too), many of famous Japanese politicians and others like CEOs use(d) this kind of room to talk something very important and confidential. Whe...n you enter this tatami room, you needed to take off shoes just like Japanese normally do. It is a very quiet room but you could enjoy traditional Japanese room. All the staff who served food was female in Kimono. Food was selected out of 2 courses depending on price. Main dish was eel but this place's Shiro Yaki (cooked without sweet sauce) was signature dish and known for. It was extremely tender and flavorful even without sauce. If you are gourmet person, must NOT miss out.

“The best Unagi I have ever eaten!”
The unagi was freshly barbecued and the umaki (Japanese eel rolled omelette) was delicious and sweet. The eel liver soup was also very refreshing. Highly recommended!
